Most of these films are still works in progress. The scripts are all written in English, then I work with the actors to translate them into German. These translations are not always verbatim but I think the system works pretty well-it makes the character of fusion of two voices/languages, which is more interesting.
After one day of shooting with someone I often feel as though I have known them for much longer. It is a very different way of getting to know someone and at the moment this is favorite aspect of film-making– creating this ephemeral world that is totally engulfing for six hours and then (kind of) vanishes. Still, I think of some of these films as documentaries of strangers thrown into totally contrived situations. I hope what we came up with is surprising. Thanks to all the great actors and collaborators who made these films happen.
